Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)
Healing is a process of learning.
Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) combines the neuroplastic effects of ketamine with psychotherapy designed to help new learning become lasting change.
Many people come to KAP after years of therapy, medication, or self-reflection. They understand why they struggle, yet still feel caught in the same emotional or relational patterns. Ketamine isn't a cure, and it doesn't replace therapy. What it can do is create a temporary period of increased neuroplasticity—a window in which the brain becomes more open to new experiences and new ways of responding.
My role is to help transform that window into meaningful, lasting change through thoughtful preparation, therapeutic support, and integration.
Who Might Benefit
KAP may be a good fit if you:
Feel stuck despite years of therapy or personal growth.
Live with depression, anxiety, PTSD, or chronic stress.
Continue repeating emotional or relationship patterns that insight alone hasn't changed.
Are looking for a more experiential approach to healing.
Want to combine medication with psychotherapy rather than relying on medication alone.
How KAP Works
Preparation
Before your first medicine session, we'll meet to clarify your goals, discuss your history, answer questions, review safety, and prepare both you and your support person for the experience. Preparation helps create the foundation for meaningful therapeutic work.
Medicine Session
You'll complete your ketamine session at home using sublingual lozenges prescribed by Journey Clinical's medical providers.
Most clients choose my bookended model, where we meet at the beginning of the session, reconnect as the medicine begins to wear off, and then transition directly into therapeutic processing while the experience is still fresh. During the quiet middle portion of the journey, a trusted, sober home chaperone provides physical support while I remain available if additional clinical support is needed.
For clients who prefer continuous therapist presence, full-session accompaniment is also available.
Integration
Every medicine session is followed by an integration session, typically within the following week. Together we explore what emerged during the experience and translate new insights into lasting emotional and behavioral change.
Preparation, the medicine experience, and integration each play a different role. Together, they create the conditions where meaningful learning can occur.
Why My Approach Is Different
Many ketamine programs focus primarily on administering medication. My practice is built around psychotherapy.
Rather than charging clients for hours of passive observation, I focus my clinical time where I believe it has the greatest therapeutic impact: preparation, intentional support before and after the medicine session, and careful integration afterward.
The goal isn't simply to have a ketamine experience.
The goal is to help that experience become lasting change.
Collaborative Medical Care
I provide the psychotherapy component of treatment while partnering with Journey Clinical, whose licensed medical providers conduct your medical evaluation, determine whether ketamine is appropriate, prescribe medication if indicated, and monitor your medical care throughout treatment.
This collaborative model allows you to receive specialized medical oversight alongside dedicated trauma-informed psychotherapy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is ketamine safe?
Ketamine has been used safely in medical settings for decades and is now an established treatment option for several mental health conditions. Before treatment begins, you'll complete a comprehensive medical evaluation through Journey Clinical to determine whether KAP is appropriate for you.
What does the medicine experience feel like?
Experiences vary from person to person. Many people describe feeling more detached from their usual patterns of thinking, allowing them to explore emotions, memories, or perspectives with greater openness and curiosity. Most medicine effects last about 45–60 minutes, with the entire session lasting approximately 2–3 hours.
Do I need a home chaperone?
Yes. Every home dosing session requires a trusted, sober adult to remain with you throughout the medicine experience. We provide clear guidance so your support person knows exactly what to expect.
How many sessions will I need?
Some people benefit from one or two sessions, while others choose a longer course of treatment. Many medical protocols recommend a series of six to eight medicine sessions, but there is no requirement to commit to a package upfront. You can begin with a single journey and decide together whether continuing feels right.
Can I use insurance?
Psychotherapy may be eligible for out-of-network reimbursement depending on your insurance plan. I provide superbills and offer access to a claims-submission portal that can submit claims directly to many insurance companies. Medical evaluation and prescription costs through Journey Clinical are billed separately.
